He spent 56 years as a Rye merchant
and over a decade serving as Mayor.
His devotion to Rye's community is still honored today as his friends and neighbors named Theodore Fremd Avenue in remembrance of him.
1947
When Theodore Fremd passed away in 1947, he left Fremd’s Market to his trusted longtime employee Robert Crisfield.
Hence, the birth of Crisfield’s Market.
John and Jackie Johnston bought the business in the 1970's and committed to continuing the Crisfield's legacy, and to which they did for 42 years.
